Concert Bands

Our prestigious band consists of four different concert bands. Filled with passion, wisdom, and integrity, each one has its own unique style. Each ensemble has earned superior ratings with their memorable performances.

The Lassiter Symphonic I Band

Concert BandThe Lassiter Symphonic I Band is the most advanced level ensemble at Lassiter and plays grade six literature and master works from the band repertoire. Sym I is on par with many college level bands and is known throughout the country for their music making.

At Large Group Performance Evaluation in March, the students consistently earned straight superior ratings for their performance. This past spring the Symphonic I band performed Ron Nelson’s Rocky Point Holiday, Festive Overture by Shostakovich, and Gallant Seventh by Sousa.

The Lassiter Symphonic II Band

Concert BandThe Lassiter Symphonic II Band is an uncommon ensemble in that there are very few high school programs in the country that have two grade six bands. Sym II is a class that develops individual musicianship and technique as well as ensemble skills required in playing higher-level music. The ensemble rehearses during the day as well as before and after school to master the more difficult music and its challenges.

The group’s performance at Large Group Performance Evaluation in March this year included performances of Ticheli’s Vesuvius, Lauds by Ron Nelson and a superb march, The Army of the Nile. Not only did these works challenge the students musically, they offered opportunities to explore the history and emotion that inspired the composers to create the pieces. Sym II earned straight superior ratings on stage and in the sight-reading room ending a wonderful journey of preparation and growth. After spring break, the students were ready to explore new music and the stories and folk songs that inspired its creation. Their love for music is apparent in the members of Sym II.

Concert BandThe Lassiter Concert I Band is the third of Lassiter’s four concert bands. The ensemble performs grade level IV/V literature and is one of the two developmental ensembles at Lassiter High School. The group follows a course of study designed to enrich and develop younger musicians with skills necessary to play in the two advanced symphonic bands at the school.

The 2012 Concert band performed at Large Group Performance Evaluation and received all superior ratings from a national panel of judges. This memorable performance was described as moving and inspired the judges in attendance. The judges commented on the mature quality sounds created by the Concert I ensemble.

The Lassiter Concert II Band

Concert BandThe Lassiter Concert II Band is formed second semester and performs grade III literature. The class focuses on building fundamental skills and musicianship throughout the semester. At Symphonic Band Camp in February, their clinician, who has worked with the Concert II Bands in previous years, commented on the 2012 Concert II Band’s advanced level of playing and rehearsal etiquette.

The band’s performance at Large Group Performance Evaluation in March was superb both on stage and in the sight-reading room. Concert II earned straight superior ratings and many commented on their excellence in performance. Cobb County band directors remarked that despite the size of group, being one of the smallest in numbers for the festival, they produced a beautiful and full sound much beyond the grade level and instrumentation. The nationally renowned judges appreciated the level of expectation, performance, and attention to detail from the band. Concert II proves to listeners that the Lassiter Bands develop excellence and depth through the entire program.
